Crayons, Playdoh & Wax

Leslie’s Life being colored, shaped and molded

Happy Halloween!!

Ok, so I am at work… and decided I would blog a bit. Life is a little crazy. Working on getting things in life worked out. Like when to sleep… turning off my phone? Yet I use it as an alarm clock. People kept calling about the time I would start to fall asleep… Probably why I am so tired today… I barely slept yeterday… and took a short nap right before coming in.

Tuesday was H’s birthday. I can’t believe she is 15 already. She has turned into a BEAUTIFUL young woman! She is in ROTC, and once she was able to switch to the HS that she wanted to go to, she is loving being in HS.

Thursday was Clare’s birthday. I start going through stuff like how long I have known people… and realized I have known her for 33 years. That is a REALLY LONG TIME!!

Oh, I got an email from my boss this morning. He asked me if I wanted to work the study on Saturday night. MTV is coming to record us doing a study. I was shocked. It is only my 3rd week. Either I am doing well, or he REALLY doesn’t want to be on TV ;) I said yes. It sounds fun. Not that I would be star struck or anything since I have absolutely NO CLUE who anyone on MTV is… or for that matter half the songs they even play. The only time I hear current music is when they have someone on The View ;) (actually I have been recording SNL cuz of the political stuff with Tina Fay ;))

Ok, I am off to stuff some charts and then stuff some goodie bags for dd’s class party tomorrow… which watching the screen and keeping an eye on the patients ;)

Happy Halloween - Les

Continuing With My Crazy Summer

July started really nice. My MIL & SIL were in town with 2 of the 3 nieces, so K spent a lot of time at Kerry’s.

4th of July we spent in Broomfield with friends and could see 10-12 firework shows at once from the park we were at since Broomfield is just a little higher.

We celebrated our nephew Z’s 2nd bday early, so the family could be there. His bday is the same day as mine, and we were in San Diego for mine. My MIL & crew left on Monday and we flew to San Diego on Tuesday.

We were so excited. We realized that we had not taken a family vacation since we went to Hawaii when K was only 16 mo. Ken says going to visit family doesn’t count, even if we do try and do something fun during the trip. We went to Carlsbad Caverns in 05, but it was on the way to Texas for his sister’s wedding. K and I went on a month long vacation in 05, with my Mom & Sister, and it did include family, but Ken wasn’t with us.

We got the Go San Diego card, which included so many things, just not Sea World. We thought about the 3 for 5 pass, but then we had to pay for everything else, and the zoo & wild animal park were on both. So that is why we decided to go with the go card. We got a great deal on ou Sea World admission too. We got the adult tickets for the price of a child and got a 2nd day free. K is old enough, she is considered an adult for Sea World. That is also one of the things that helped us decide on the go card, cuz with the 3 for 5 card, we had to get K an adult card. Every where else, kids are up to 11 or 12 and Sea World is 9.

Well, I will do our trip in its own entry. This is getting long on its own.

I need to set it up so I can shoot posts from my text

See, that is why Twitter gets updated so much… i can just shoot a text message over and it will just post in the side bar… did you know they make gadgets like an IM box that will show up on your screen with all my little posts ;) I love my twitter box (but I also have a Mac… but I am sure they have something like that with Windows too… if nothing else… googletalk will do it).

Anyway, Wednesday we have our niece’s 8th grade graduation and Friday we leave for Montana for our other niece’s High School graduation. That will be fun. We are going to try and do yellowstone on our way up… stopping to visit Ken’s old stomping ground on our way up.

Since last I posted, Ken and I celebrated our 19th anniversary, They spoiled me for mother’s day with a beautiful sapphire necklace (picture on flickr ->) and Ken got me a 3 in 1 scanner/printer/fax for our anniversary (didn’t you know that 19th anniversary is computer accessories ;) actually it is something I wanted!!!) I got my nails done for the first time in I don’t remember how many years and have taken this long and shortening them to be able to type again. Friday was my last day of work. Not sure if I will be going back in the fall or not… life is a whole lot crazy around that church. I spent this last week taking and editing and printing the class pictures. I spent the week before getting pictures taken and edited and printed for the 2-3 year old mother’s day gifts. I guess I should become a photographer ;) Although I think I did do a pretty good job photoshoping myself into a class picture… since Belinda was in England for a month and then i was out too… talk about a nightmare trying to get a class picture for that one.

I also applied for a job at a sleep lab, which sounds like something right up my alley!! Ken and I got our offices switched, and he is now working from home. And just this weekend, our TV went out in our bedroom, so i am looking forward to going shopping for a new TV when we get back from Montana. I moved our old 20 inch back in the bedroom for now, but then it will go in my office. Watch, with my luck, now that Ken is out of the upstairs room and i have it, Now I will end up PG and have to move all over again to make it a nursery ;) LOL

Anyway, I have been sick since Wednesday, but can’t seem to figure out what is causing the pain… but that is something for over at Better Me. Our poor dog has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. She ended up getting an eye infection called Pannus, which is common in German Shepherds and usually shows up between the ages of 3 & 5… well, she is 4. We went for her follow up visit… 3 weeks after starting her meds and she is doing much better. I asked about her nose at this visit (I was on the walk when Ken took her initially) and it turns out that it too is from the autoimmune disorder … so not only is she not allowed outside between the hours of 10 & 2 anymore, but we have to put Zinc on her nose. I laughed, cuz I remember doing that growing up in Arizona for swim team practice!! It is better than the sun glasses which is where I thought she was going to have to go. And it turned out that me putting the cortisone cream on her nose is exactly how the vet would have treated it if I had brought her in sooner! See, I’m not as crazy as dh likes to think I am ;)

Anyway, that is enough for now. I am off to set up email posts and maybe then I will have short little entries going on in here!!!

Monday…

What a crazy weekend. I never even got time to sit down and write a blog entry. I so can’t believe that K turned 10 yesterday.

It is just not possible. Mom and Dad got here Thursday night, and I swear, all I have been doing is running every since. I worked on Friday morning, then by the time I got the car and took Ken lunch, it was time to go to therapy. Mom and Dad got stranded at the house, but went and had lunch with K at school. Kids LOVE to have grandparents come visit. It is so much cooler than Mom and Dad!!!

When I got home, Dad and I ran to pick up the gift for K. We had called ALL over town looking for a PINK Nintendo DS. We found black and white, but not pink… but Mom finally located one. I stopped at Girl Scout concil on the way home to get K the sweat shirt I have been planning to get her and then we were running late for karate. I probably wouldn’t have gone since Mom and Dad are here, but K was very excited that Grandma and Papa were going to get to see her work out. We ended up not eating til almost 8 (we picked up Ken after Karate) and so it was almost 10 by the time we got home.

Saturday morning I was running to Wally World to get kleenex and the soda for the party, and ended up spending over 2 hours there. I didn’t spend $300 like my normal 2+ hour trips are, but still. We were then running late for our Kama workshop. Ken had a fit, wanting to know why we were going to a karate thing on Saturday, that was optional non the less. I asked everyone before I actually gave them the money on Friday night. Well, it turned out that we were not late, it didn’t start until 12:30. Ok, it is still only 1 hour. So when it is 1:30, and they are still going, I asked the instructor. Turns out that the fliers said until 2. Yah, I didn’t see that, and since Ken was already upset, K and I left early, but we had learned everything, so we still get our certificate.

I went home and cleaned some. Why I cleaned before 6 Tweeniers came over, I have no idea, because by Sunday morning, you sure couldn’t tell it was clean!!! K’s party was at Build-A-Bear. She and the other girls seemed to have a really good time. K made a beagle. I was surprised she didn’t go for the valentine dog… so I made it for me :) She is really cute!!

I finally fell asleep by about 2. Most of the girls were asleep at that point, but a few hold outs were still up. Thankfully Mom was here, and she had said something to them about 2:30 and they finally crashed. When my meds wear off, I have a little bit of an issue staying awake. (and Ken was no help, he put in ear phones when he went to bed. Good thing a fire alarm didn’t go off!!!)

And then Sunday I woke up with a sore throat. I didn’t think much of it at first, just thought it was sinus drainage, cuz I had woke up Saturday with extra secretions and increased asthma issues… but by last night it felt really icky. I feel bad now that I had people over. I should have stayed in the bedroom and let the dh with the people anxiety host ;) (yah, like that would have EVER happened!!!)

This morning I can barely talk. I woke up at 6 coughing. Laid in bed listening to the radio waiting for the doctors office to open. In the mean time I won the morning Brain Teaser… and got a $30 gift certificate to a local coffee shop and 4 tickets to My Little Pony. Granted, K likes to play with them still, but I think she is getting a little old… so we are going to take my friend and her 2 year old :)

I FINALLY got my MSLT results, but I am going to go put that over at Better Me. Enjoy your MLK day. Oh man, I have a friend whose dd is on the Chrysalis flight this weekend and I so wanted to go to candle light last night. I just now remembered it. Oh well. I will write her a nice note to get when she gets home tonight.

Happy 2008!!

So what a fun and exciting way to start the new year. Well I did decide that since last year was not real great, I wanted to start this one with some Austi! We stood in the bedroom, watched the fireworks on Pikes Peak, and listened to the dd running around the house screaming that wonderful high pitched scream that all the tweeners seem to love to do!! She made a sign saying 2008 is going to be great and then taped it to a  pencil.  Happy new year Oh, and did I mention that dh and dd both snubbed their noses to the Austi, so I got to pour their cups into mine. Oh darn!

We then went to bed, and soon dh was up and throwing up. Yah, what a great way to start the new year. So, our traditional New Years day brunch at our friends house didn’t happen. The good part is that we are home and I am actually making the Augrotten potatoes that I didn’t make on Christmas since dh was sick then too.

I got the big tree down yesterday and the living room vacuumed. I still have the small tree to take down, but waiting for Epiphany for that one.

Since we never made it to Phoenix as we originally planned, I wasn’t spending yesterday driving home. Granted, I did get to see my grandma, and I didn’t see my brother before he leaves for basic training, but we also weren’t driving in the nasty weather.I am thinking it is time to do a new layout on this thing… but I am not sure what I want to do, and I am not real good with WP. I guess I could see if anyone has any free layouts. Or I could start shopping… just have to wait for my next pay check. I need to renew Flickr first though. Maybe I will get my Mom to do that since she was giving us money to help with the drive for Christmas :(

Have a wonderful new year! I hope you are blessed in this year!!

Last Weekend in 2007

Wow, wasn’t it just yesterday that we were saying good-bye to 2006? I remember looking on 2007 with so much hope. and ‘POOF’ it seems to have just disappeared. I am not saying it was a bad year, but then again, I can remember many better ones. I am praying that 2008 is a much better year.

Granted, there have been a lot of good things this year. I got to go to the Dominican Republic in January, our nephew D was born in February. My brother Joel, nephew TJ and niece Heather all graduated from High School. I actually got a diagnosis after 5+ years of sleeping. (do you have any idea how wonderful it feels to know there really is something wrong and I am not just crazy… or worse, lazy!!) Oh, and after almost a year of counseling, I think our marriage is on solid ground again. (or at least pretty close).

Maybe that is part of the problem, having the year START with all that hanging over my head, and then ending the year loosing my FIL. Dealing with all of K’s testing and doctor visits (not that I wouldn’t have done it, just that they started getting tedious, and I won’t even start on the apparent incompetence of the Speech therapist). Again, the good news is, we do have a diagnosis… multiple of them, but still a diagnosis. I did find out that I am a lot more capable than I thought I was when it comes to exercise… proof of that by earning my purple belt!!  K and Les Purple

I have a picture of me at my very top weight from my nieces 1st birthday party, tomorrow she will be 4, I think it will be interesting to take a picture and put the 2 side by side to see if there is a difference in the last 3 years ;) I need to put a link to my better me flickr pictures on here :) Yes, that does start me thinking about my New Years resolutions… which most people don’t keep up… but it is a good way to start the new year. My weightloss email list always gets a bunch of new people at the beginning of the year, but then they trickle off…

Happy Birthday

Well, when we were at church with Steve & Lonnie in Omaha, I got a CD from one of their pastors past sermons, and he did the 37 things he had learned in his 37 years. So, it got me to thinking, and I decided to do a twist on this idea, and I decided in honor of my birthday, I am going to do a list of the 42 songs that have inspired my life. I thought about putting them in order by the year, but then I decided I will put them (as close as I can get them) in the order of greatest influence. I do however have songs from all points of my life… and if you have known me for any amount of time, you will be able to tell which songs are from which points of my life :) And as a bonus… if you click on the song, it will take you to a clip of the song on iTunes. (providing they are on there, some of them might just have to be the words on another page :))

42nd Happy Birthday

#42 The Old Rugged Cross - I don’t remember a lot about my childhood, but I do remember my mother use to sing this song to us all the time… especially in the car when she was driving.

#41 Joy To The World - Three Dog Night - My uncle is only 5 years older than I am, and I remember when we were kids that it was so cool to go visit grandma & grandpa, cuz we got to hang out with Uncle Bernie (although we weren’t allowed to call him that then… he still hates it when I call him Uncle) but he would always be playing this song in his room.

#40 Paper Roses - Marie Osmond - Yah, I was a girly girl… and I use to not only sing this song along with my 45, complete with trying to do the hand motions, we made roses out of kleenex!

#39 It’s My Party - Leslie Gore - I loved this song, mostly because Leslie Gore sang it and we had the same name. I had never met a girl with the same name as me at this point in my life… only guys.

It’s a Birthday Week

I think I know at least 1 person who has a birthday just about every day this week… and I know about 4 that have their first birthdays tomorrow :) Last year it was a popular day to have a baby. It starts with the dd’s best friend on Sunday, One of the kids that was a youth when I was a sponsor… yah, Donna’s son, has a birthday on the 16th. About the only day I don’t know of a birthday is the 17th :). My SIL, her niece, my bio paternal grandmother all have birthdays on the 18th. (Happy Birthday Kerry!!)… tomorrow is a given ;) And Friday is K’s Half birthday, she is convinced we need to celebrate that, along with my friend Clare’s Dad’s birthday… and if I am not mistaken, it is Rose’s Mom’s birthday too… or is her’s on the 21st. See, they all start running together :)

I went to the ortho doc on Monday, that was a complete and total waste of time. I will post more on that over at Better Me.

Back in May, there was an accident at the Sky Sox game, and one of the VP’s was injured in a fireworks accident as they were getting things set up for the game (they shoot off fireworks every time the Sky Sox hit a home run). Anyway, it turns out that he is a neighbor of ours and his dd was one of the first friends K made when we moved in. Well, this past weekend, they did a Home Makeover on their house, and I was down there helping. His wife got to come home yesterday and see the house. The news was there and interviewed them, and do a human interest piece about everything that was done to the house.

Yesterday, one of the other neighbors and I spent the day making a scrapbook for them of the whole process… how it started, and what all was done. We have before and after pictures and pictures of everyone who was there to help. I was really impressed at how quickly we got pages whipped out yesterday… considering how many pictures. We kind of started an assembly line… I did the layouts and D glued them down. I am going to take pictures of the album and put it up on Crafty Crayons when I get it all done. I have the ‘friends’ section and then all the pictures of the home coming and BBQ to do… D was suppose to get those printed out today. And the coolest part is that Rai gets to come home tomorrow. What a cool birthday present!!

I got the last of my rose bushes in the ground tonight… finally. It actually had a rose ON IT, when I put it in the ground. I am only down to the veggies. I got the ground started tonight, but then it tried to rain. Maybe tomorrow.

Have a great night… I am off to work on the rest of my birthday post… I had it started since last week.

The Weekend

(BTW, there are 3 posts about this last week… so you might want to scroll down first)

So this past weekend, we went to Omaha. My mom’s best friend moved there about 3 years ago. This past Spring break, her oldest daughter and family moved there as well. It was really nice for them. They got a cute little house, for half the price of their apartment in California… in a not great neighborhood. Michele told me that I she was getting married, and I had told Ken, that we could just reverse the direction of our vacation (we were starting at Yellowstone and going to Mt. Rushmore… so this way we could start at Rushmore and go to Yellowstone)… That was before Ken got hurt. So, we were going to go to Texas… but Ken’s month of July went crazy, so he made me a deal, we would go up for the weekend for the wedding and go to Texas for Thanksgiving.
Well, apparently Saturday was a REALLY popular day for weddings. I didn’t hear the stats, but I am guessing they ran close to a Valentines Day number. It is a cool date… 07-07-07. My friend Clare did that back in 04… 04-04-04… it was a Sunday. I am thinking that last year, there weren’t many people getting married on June 6! I know I wouldn’t have wanted those numbers. Next up will be a crazy day in August :)
