Crayons, Playdoh & Wax

Leslie’s Life being colored, shaped and molded

Things Have Gotten Absolutely Crazy

Where do we even start? And the weirdest part is, I am not even talking about the medical stuff.

Friday at work, I found out that the Children’s Director resigned on Thursday effective immediately. Wow. Ok, that probably means more work for my boss, since that is her boss. Then I found out that the youth director also resigned, but he gave them until the end of confirmation which is the 18th of May. (and I was being good and not writing about any of this until today since the kids weren’t suppose to find out until today). Yes, I am still trying to decide what I want to do, but actually neither of these 2 things effect me or my job unless they decide to get rid of our program or something.

Yesterday was our Emmaus Team meeting. Well the one thing we have always known is that Satan does NOT like these weekends to happen, and the one thing that I have learned, the more he fights us, the more that the weekend is going to be amazing!! (and that there are people there who God has plans for!!) With the amount that out teams have been attacked, I am just so excited about the weekend. I can’t believe the last team meeting is over and that there is only 2.5 weeks until we leave. Then they also announced how bad that he is attacking the summer walks. We have not had summer walks in our community for so many years, I know that they are needed so badly, and, like I said, the attack that the teams are coming under is just confirming that fact. They are needing to replace a lot of team members in key positions, so I did send an email and said if she needs me, to hollar… cuz the cool part about me is, I can do ANY job there is except clergy (and it isn’t that I don’t think I could do that one, but I think we could get into a little trouble with the fact I am not even in seminary… but I think I could do a good job with one of their talks!!) Guess we will see what happens. I haven’t even heard anything.

Then today I get to church and found out that our Sr. youth pastor had resigned (I apparently missed the message or something) so our Jr. Hi youth pastor is now the Sr. and he is trying to get it all transitioned nicely and hire a new Jr. Hi youth pastor. I am going to sure miss Pastor Sam, but I know God will definitely use him somewhere. He has gifted that young man, and he can sure preach!! I hope he is moving up in a church where ever he goes!!!

Then the icing on the cake is that Ken has been offered a job. It is with a company he has done freelance stuff for, so he already knows the program, and they had approached him about a year ago, but I don’t think that the time was right. He met with them on Saturday (yes, while I was in Canon City at the team meeting), and then he and I will be going to dinner with everyone from the company tomorrow night. They are a small company (which is a good fit for Ken) and not everyone works here in town, but they are all in town from today through Wednesday, so this worked well.

Ken also has a meeting at work on Wednesday about the job he was applying for. They are currently going through re-organization in their department and everyone is having to apply and interview and the whole nine yards for the positions they want. The job he is interested in would hopefully be a raise as well, but I don’t know. I am just praying that if this is the time for the move, than every door be opened. If this is not, than God please shut every door and make it very clear what he is supposed to do.

Oh, and did I mention, if he takes the new job, yah, he will be working from home. Thus the more motivation for me to get a job OUT of the house or we will end up killing each other!!! (although I have suggested that we make him an actual office in the basement so he can ‘go’ to work… probably even put the door back on down there!)

I got my peony planted today. It is so beautiful outside. I didn’t get any of the rocks moved for my garden today… but that is because I fell asleep. (isn’t that what you are supposed to do on a Sunday afternoon?). All my veggies are starting to poke in. I have them started in the little jiffy gardens in the front window. It is much cheaper this way than buying plants.

So, how was your weekend??? Oh, and I got the RSS link put in the side bar if you want to have my posts in a reader or I think there is even an option to email them to you :)

It’s a Birthday Week

I think I know at least 1 person who has a birthday just about every day this week… and I know about 4 that have their first birthdays tomorrow :) Last year it was a popular day to have a baby. It starts with the dd’s best friend on Sunday, One of the kids that was a youth when I was a sponsor… yah, Donna’s son, has a birthday on the 16th. About the only day I don’t know of a birthday is the 17th :). My SIL, her niece, my bio paternal grandmother all have birthdays on the 18th. (Happy Birthday Kerry!!)… tomorrow is a given ;) And Friday is K’s Half birthday, she is convinced we need to celebrate that, along with my friend Clare’s Dad’s birthday… and if I am not mistaken, it is Rose’s Mom’s birthday too… or is her’s on the 21st. See, they all start running together :)

I went to the ortho doc on Monday, that was a complete and total waste of time. I will post more on that over at Better Me.

Back in May, there was an accident at the Sky Sox game, and one of the VP’s was injured in a fireworks accident as they were getting things set up for the game (they shoot off fireworks every time the Sky Sox hit a home run). Anyway, it turns out that he is a neighbor of ours and his dd was one of the first friends K made when we moved in. Well, this past weekend, they did a Home Makeover on their house, and I was down there helping. His wife got to come home yesterday and see the house. The news was there and interviewed them, and do a human interest piece about everything that was done to the house.

Yesterday, one of the other neighbors and I spent the day making a scrapbook for them of the whole process… how it started, and what all was done. We have before and after pictures and pictures of everyone who was there to help. I was really impressed at how quickly we got pages whipped out yesterday… considering how many pictures. We kind of started an assembly line… I did the layouts and D glued them down. I am going to take pictures of the album and put it up on Crafty Crayons when I get it all done. I have the ‘friends’ section and then all the pictures of the home coming and BBQ to do… D was suppose to get those printed out today. And the coolest part is that Rai gets to come home tomorrow. What a cool birthday present!!

I got the last of my rose bushes in the ground tonight… finally. It actually had a rose ON IT, when I put it in the ground. I am only down to the veggies. I got the ground started tonight, but then it tried to rain. Maybe tomorrow.

Have a great night… I am off to work on the rest of my birthday post… I had it started since last week.

Got My Wish

At least for a day… No rain today!! Yup, it was hot and dry… but at least I can breath today! And since we have had so much rain, I didn’t have to water anything!! One of my tomato plants has lost all of it’s leaves, but yet it has 2 very small tomatoes on it, one of which is turning red (granted, it is grape tomatoes) I am hoping that it will take off and grow better since I got it in a better pot, that actually drains!!

Dh comes home tomorrow. I think by the time he is done with all his traveling this summer, I will be looking for a weekend get away or something.

Planting

Well, I finally got my tomatoes planted. I planted them in pots on the deck rather than the ground, but at least they are planted!!! Now I need to get the zuccini and cucumber in the ground!!

My computer is still giving me problems. I can only do 1 thing at a time and I have started shutting off most of my IM’s and other things I don’t use regularly when I reboot. So, if you want to IM me… google talk is probably the best way to get ahold of me any more!!

So Far, So Good

I got 6 of the bare root rose bushes in the ground…. and only stopped cuz I ran out of dirt.

I also got 3 that I bought in pots this year in the ground. I have 1 more, but can’t decide where to put it. 2 of the 3 that I planted are minatures, and since the cats kept knocking them out of the window, I am not sure if they are going to survive or not… but they are in the ground and I am going to run out and trim them up here in a bit…

I am so hot and tired. That was a lot of work… and that wasn’t even with me weeding any of the flower beds. I think that I am going to have to just start doing a little each evening after the sun sets!!

Pictures will be coming as I get flowers blooming!! btw, if you haven’t noticed, I LOVE roses. I have never been a big one for wanting a dozen roses from a guy type of gal, but my MIL introduced me to Jackson & Perkins many years ago and I have been hooked every since!!!

There is 1 more that I fell in love with in the catalog, but I haven’t ordered it… The fun of living in Zone 4 for growing stuff… I am just getting started and they are probably closing down for the season ;)

Update: 12:45 am… I didn’t realize how bad my back was going to hurt when I did all of this. I had to use the BIG shovel to dig the holes and Man, am I paying for it now. I WILL be sleeping with the heating pad tonight!!! OWWWW!!

The Roses Aren’t Dead

So I am heading out to plant some rose bushes. Last summer, I ordered a bunch of rose bushes that were delievered bare root. I never got them in the ground and I was sure they were all dead. I did put them in the garage during the winter, and brought them out and put them in some water later this spring. Yesterday I was out working on some stuff in the yard and decided to clip a couple of them, to see if they were really dead… and I was very glad to see, that they are NOT dead… so this afternoon and tomorrow, I am going to get them in the ground and see if I can salvage them!!! (especially since they weren’t cheap!! but that is what happens when you are gone all summer and it wasn’t planned that way!!!)

Now to get the rest of the yard done… but the part that is coming in, it looks good so far!!

Happy Memorial Day!!!

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend. I got to sleep in… then I laid in bed playing with the cats… I am going to go work in my yard in a bit as I bought some tomato plants, some zucchini and cucumber. I started tomatoes from seed, but that kittens killed them all. I think I am going to run to Lowes and get one of those garden seats!!! At least the yard got mowed on Friday, so I can tell where the flower bed actually START!!! Yah, I did nothing in them last summer, so they are completely OVER RUN. I think I will put the small handle on the garden weasel as well!!! Dh is just enjoying having the day off… and for the dd, it is just another day in the summer vacation as she is off with her friends!!!

I think I might pop by Michele’s too… for her meet & Greet, but I am thinking it ended yesterday since she is in Canada. I was wrong… she did include Monday, just for us American’s!!!

Thank you to all who serve in our armed services… for giving us the protection and our Freedom!! And thank you to all the families, who are doing without a spouse or loved one as they are off protecting the lifestyle we have and the freedom we so take forgranted. Thank you even more to those who have lost a loved one serving our country. We will never forget what they have done for us!!

Gardening

No, No pictures, but I do think I will go out and do some BEFORE shots in a bit. I picked up a garden Weasel today. I am hoping it is better than the Claw, my neighbor loaned me his and man did it make my back hurt!!!

My biggest problem is that it is to darn hot to go out and work in the yard during the day… and tomorrow we go to church in the evening. I am going to work on the yard til dh gets home from work tonight… and I finaly found some shorts!!! I so can’t believe I was in pants ALL day today! It was suppose to be in the 70’s at like 8 this morning. I sure need the screens fixed. Dh said something about getting caulking and sealing the screens so the dd and the cats can’t push them out any more!!

FYI… if you water first…. the weasel works wonderful!!! (it isn’t bad if you don’t water first… but the ground has been watered, it’s not rock hard!!!!)

Too cool… I was working on the Emmaus website tonight and was going through all my graphics… and I found this:
