Snow Frustration

So get this… They called to have the plow come… and since the street by us is a school route, they come, plowed the school parking lot… and then the plow drove down our street. Sounds great huh??? Except when they drove down our street, they didn’t drop the PLOW!!! Why would they not drop the plow??? How hard would it be, really???

Yes, I kept thinking about this as me and 2 other women were pushing our car down the street while dh drove!! We only needed to get about 2 houses down to where there was NO snow at all… And yet, they couldn’t DROP THE PLOW!!! It had to have been a MAN!

Women Over 40…

60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS)

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask,
“What are you thinking?” She doesn’t care what you think. If a woman over 40
doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She
does something she wants to do, and it’s usually more interesting. Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk or if you are acting like one. You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her. Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons.

Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize For all those men who say, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?”, here’s an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage Why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!

Round 2…

Well, we are off and running with the 2nd blizzard in about a week. This is so weird. If we have snow storms more than once a season it is October and April… Never in December, let alone TWICE!! The snow started coming down about 10 this morning and they are expecting it to get worse by tomorrow. Dh keeps going out and shoveling and I just look at him and shake my head! He says he wants to keep the driveway and sidewalk reasonable and not have to do 2 feet all at once. I guess I can understand that… I helped shovel the driveway last week!!!

Mom flies in on the 3rd, and this is suppose to be done by Saturday night. I hope they are right, cuz one of the other stations are saying that it might circle around and hit us again Saturday Night. We fly out on the 5th… which isn’t as bad, since we are flying out of the Springs, she is flying into Denver! I am going to stock up the fridge for her with stuff before we leave (providing I can find anything in the stores… apparently stuff was leaving as fast as they put it out this morning) There is a shortage of milk and beef.

Anyway, keep us in your prayers!!

Weird Weather

It has been a week and we are still white… which in itself is really weird. Granted, I don’t remember how long we were white after the blizzard of ‘97, but still. And now, with us still having horrible streets in the subdivisions, they are telling us we are going to have ANOTHER blizzard on Friday??? Hello??? This is Colorado Springs, we only get 1, maybe 2 big snow falls a season (1 in October and the other in APRIL) December is usually ugly and brown, not beautiful and a White Christmas!! And now we are going to have a blizzard for New Years too???? This is just weird. I have been here for 16 years and haven’t seen this much snow in 1 season, let alone half way through!!!

So, how was your Christmas??? :) Dh spoiled me. I finally got my iPod. A nice pink 4g nano. It will be nice to have on the trip. I just hope at this point not only can I get to DIA to pick up my Mom, but that we can GET OUT!!! I got almost everything bought for the trip yesterday… I just need to find some Jump ropes and some baseballs. Walmart doesn’t have their spring stuff yet. (should I be surprised with how empty shelves were on Friday… they hadn’t had a truck in 3 days!!! And King Soopers had signs all over… no one had Beef… and the shelves would either have a bunch or be empty… with signs saying trucks couldn’t get in with the snow!!) I am going to try the dollar store. Also see if they have stickers. We are going to spend a day with the kids doing crafts and games and that sort of thing. I got fun stuff like crayons, paper… stuff that doesn’t take batteries. I bought a bunch of balls… soccer balls, rubber balls, a basket ball. Then I realized if I not only bought a pump, that we could pack them flat… but then we can leave it there so they have a pump to pump the balls back up again!! (yes, I got the needles too).

I tried to use some of my gift cards yesterday. I got one for Kohls. I never shop there… and I didn’t find a skirt, which is something I need… so I ended up using MY Christmas bonus on the dd and the niece. Oh well. I am sure I will make up for it somewhere :)

Merry Christmas!!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. It is beautiful here. Not only do we have all the snow from the blizzard, but it is snowing again tonight. Believe it or not, this is not normal for Colorado. December is usually our driest month of the year… but we get to have a White Christmas this year.

We went to church at 5:00 to celebrate the birth… came home, and had dinner. K opened her gift from Grandma… she always sends PJs for Christmas eve. This is a first for us… we are actually opening our gifts in the MORNING! (I grew up opening them on Christmas Eve). K and I just got done tracking Santa from Norad… he is on the east coast… so I told her she needs to get to bed!!

I hope you have a great day tomorrow and celebrate the true reason for the season!!

Merry Christmas!

Colorado Is Closed!

Yup, they declared us a state wide disaster so they could activate the National Guard yesterday. Ken’s work said to report at noon, but by noon had changed that to closed. Our school district wasn’t listed anywhere today, which makes me believe that yesterday there were the hourly people still working (non-saleries… not teachers basically). I got some really cool pictures and I went out to shovel. I decided either I do the nortic trak today or shovel and figured the shoveling was more productive! Now to get Ken to upload the pictures. The drifts are just amazing.

I feel bad for anyone traveling in or out of Colorado… DIA is just closed… and not expecting to open until Noon tomorrow. The Colorado Springs airport is still open, it’s just that not all the flights are taking off. From what I have heard, it isn’t the runways that are the problem, it is the wind.

Oh, my goodness. I just looked at the window next to my desk. It is over half full of snow. I will go get the camera! Ken probably won’t go to work tomorrow. He only has tomorrow left before his holiday break… and is off til Wednesday, so why not work from home! I was working on the driveway so that we can get the car out… I still need to get some stuff before Sunday… and some food would be good too!! :) Oh, and with no postal delivery for 2 days, it will be interesting to see how many cards are in the mail tomorrow… I am only at 25 so far this year… nothing like the year I broke 80!!!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!!!

They have started closing down roads though out town, which is making it hard for those who went out this morning to get home. We have intersections at complete stand-stills, and not all because of accidents. The drifts are horrible.

Even though Ken ran out of gas last night, I am so glad I had him go get gas and his laptop last night so he didn’t even have to try and leave today! The best we can tell the snow will be hanging around until at least 7 AM tomorrow… Oh, and did I mention that when I was putting up my outdoor Christmas lights, I had cleared a spot big enough for the car to get in the garage… so YAY, no scraping!!!

This is what we call an Albuquerque low… and as the weather man said yesterday, it is literally one… cuz it went right through Albuquerque before moving to our area! (an Albuquerque low brings us LOTS of snow!!) Oh and the wind… this snow is coming down horizontally!!

I just feel bad for the kids in our school district… they are already on Christmas break, so even though they did announce our district is closed, No Snow Day! (I think that was for buisnesses that go by school districts for closings… or the secretaries who have to work even when there are NO kids). Hey, we are out of snow days on Wednesday, so for me it was a blessing :)

Only part that stinks is, I didn’t make a grocery run like I ususally try and do before a snow storm. We at least have milk! I also have a few Christmas presents left to get. Hopefully I will be able to get out by Saturday or so!! Going to have to watch your news tonight to see how fun we are… I am going to get out the camera in a bit… the front is deep, and yet I can still see the deck out back! I feel really bad for people traveling for the holidays!! The airports aren’t closed down, but the freeway IS!!

Snowed In For Christmas???

Not sure if it will last that long, but apparently this storm is REALLY slow moving… and so we are in the middle of a blizzard… which is actually unusual for us… cuz December is generally our driest month!! Right now, everything is closing down if they aren’t already. The snow is really light and dry (I think this is what the snow resorts call powder!!) and it is blowing EVERYWHERE!! We have piles in some places and you can see grass in others.

Lots of fun in Colorado today!!!

Cards…

I am finally getting my Christmas cards addressed! Oh man, talk about craziness!!! Did I mention that when I reformatted the computer, and I switched to Thunderbird… I imported my addressbook and all the home addresses disappeared. I didn’t notice that until after the Palm batteries had died. I have spent the last 2 days trying to get the stupid addresses back out of the computer. I am still not sure exactly what happened or for that matter, where they are even at… but after uninstalling the Palm program and reinstalling it… it still couldn’t find the addresses… so I started troubleshooting and Boom… the next time I synched the Palm all the addresses are there. I still have no idea how to get it to synch with Outlook Express… but for now, if the address isn’t in my OE… I input it from my palm by hand!!!

Anyway, my whole point is, if you moved this year… send me your new address!!! :)

7 Days til Christmas (yah, like I can get to my graphics!) I haven’t even put my Christmas card count in the side bar yet this year… but it is under 20 at this point!

Yeah… I can Log In!!!

I have been wanting to write since Sunday and I couldn’t get logged in. I have had problems on and off since we moved. Ken said he removed the program that was the problem, but then this weekend I could log in or get my email. It has been nuts!

We are getting closer to Christmas. I can’t wait. I am also slowly finishing the decorating. I got a spot in the garage cleaned out big enough for the car to fit in… but still can’t get to 1 of the boxes of lights. I got the Christmas letter done (still haven’t put my Christmas card count in my side bar yet ;) I need to get the cards addressed this week.

Last night we had our last Disciple class, here. It was fun. I baked a ton of stuff. It is interesting though, last night we had our last class, and today, the director of Adult Ed asked me to stop by her office. Apparently since we no longer attend that church, Ken can no longer teach the class. I told Ken this afternoon that it is time we actually PULL our membership. I haven’t done it so far… but that was the final straw. I am just waiting for them to tell me I can’t work there anymore either. (then again, the only person on our staff that actually attends the church is the director!! What are they going to do? Fire the whole staff?) It was so hard changing churches for me… but with all the crap going on now… they are making it SOOOO easy to leave. I so love my job, and I think I do a wonderful job with those children (as we were singing Happy Birthday to Jesus today!!), but they are just making it hard to even come to work any more. As it is, I can’t feel the spirit in that church. I was really happy to walk into the atrium yesterday and see that the 6 foot Santa was GONE!! (choir performed over the weekend!)

I have my letters printing… cards are bought… and I have a hair appointment. Dh’s Christmas party is tomorrow and I so despritely need a haircut!! Have to run… more later!
