Leslie’s Life being colored, shaped and molded

Crazy Week

Ok, I am finally back on the computer… but this has been a really weird and crazy week. I am sitting here in Colorado… not real happy with my dh about the fact I am sitting here, but that is a whole nother story. My uncle’s funeral in Michigan was today… the one in Indiana was yesterday.

Ken finally got my computer working on Wednesday… and I finally uploaded all my email. I think I have been working on the email since… except when I am working on my new toy. Dh found a family tree maker called Geni. It is great. I have been adding people and adding emails when I can. I haven’t gone in an invited the people Ken added… but I am working my way across. It is private… so to see the info you have to be invited. I am hoping to get enough cousins and stuff in there so that we can trace stuff back. I got my grandmother’s siblings all added in today… all 13 of them!! One of the cousins is the Poker champion from last year (I think) but I can’t remember who he blongs to. And I know if I get enough of my dad’s family on there, it will include Bert Reynolds :) I have suggested a few different things for the program though… like it doesn’t give you the option for those who have children without being married… and there is also not an adoption option.

Off to get out of the basement… it is cold down here!!

I really am home

I am on the dh’s computer while he is at work. I really haven’t run away, I just can’t get logged onto the internet with my computer. Ken keeps saying there is nothing wrong, yet it shows I am connected and I can’t open a page. I tend to think it might be the router, but since he just got it in September, he doesn’t think that is the problem.

Anyway, the trip was amazing… and I will write more about that later. If you can keep my family in your prayers, my Uncle passed away today. I got the call about 11:30 that he was gone. Mom was at the airport trying to get there, but she did talk to him on the phone and told him it was ok if he didn’t wait for her. K was so matter of fact when I talked to her this morning. She just said he is leaving his life here on earth. I would really like to go to the funeral, but not sure if we can swing it. The tickets weren’t ‘as’ bad as I thought they would be, but we will see. I need to talk to dh.

More later…

Farewell???

We are leaving here at the bright time of 5:30 am (yah, I am such a morning person… NOT!!!) and off to Miami… but from there, I am not sure how far we are going to get… from what we have heard today, the snow in Colorado (for the 4th week strait) is not amounting to what they thought it would… but apparently Dallas is in an ice storm, so when we logged onto the DFW website, almost all flights were canceled. We decided to not check our bags all the way through to home from here… just incase we need to change the city we are flying through. Keep us in your prayers that we get home!!! (or if not, that we get to stay somewhere warm ;))

Oh, and if you sponsor a child… go write them a letter!!! I am bringing home some packets so if anyone wants one from one of the projects we went to visit this week… I will be more than happy to coordinate that with you :) The one thing I did learn this week is how truly important those letters are to the children!!!!

Hola

Hey all… we are here in Santo Domingo and we have computer access!!! It has been a fabulous week!!! This country is awesome and the children are adorable!! I have met some really wonderful people from all over the US as well. I tell you, if you ever have thought about sponsoring a child, you need to do it… and then to get the opportunity to meet them… it is just incredible!!

Ken and I and one other gal from his work were the only one’s who didn’t have a child down here. Today was the day they got to meet… and what a day!!! Since I didn’t have a child to meet, I got volunteered to take pictures, so I had a ball!! I know I took well over 150 pictures!!! Batteries are on the charger as we speak since I sort of forgot to charge them before we left this morning and had to borrow a set (since our extras were in the bag we didn’t take!!)

I did tell Ken that after seeing the sponsors with their children today that I want to go to Africa and meet the girl we have been sponsoring for about 3 years now!! K asked me if I would take her with me and I said that since they offered Tanzania last year, it probably won’t be offered again until 08, so she will be old enough and yes, probably. She was like ‘Yes!!’ I would almost see that fist going down to her waist as she said it :)

The biggest thing that I did learn this week is How important it is for sponsor contact, so whether you sponosor a child through Compassion or any other child sponsorship company… go and write them a letter. Tell them you are praying for them… and keep writing. These letters mean so much to these kids. I met a girl who went through her whole program and only received 1 letter, her letter of introduction. She said she didn’t feel like she really had a sponsor. Not only do you need to write, but include pictures. Ask them questions and encourage them to write you more often. It is this relationship that you build that gets these kids through and gets them to realize that there really are people out there who care for them!!! You might be the only shred of Christ’s love that these kids see!!! Go Write a letter!!!

Mi espanol es pequeno improved ;) After 20+ years since I took Spanish, things are coming back. I have been told that just practicing will help!!! Ok, off to listen to the President (we get NY channels down here!!) Tomorrow we are off to a project to spend the day playing with the kids, so I will have someone to play with :) Hasta Manana

We Are Outa Here…

Ken and I are leaving first thing tomorrow for our trip to the Dominican Republic. We are going on a sponsor tour with Compassion International… not that the girl we sponsor is down there… but it is an opportunity!!! I won’t be on here until after we get home… and then I will probably have lots of pictures!!!

Leave me lots of love notes telling me how much you miss me!!
