Crayons, Playdoh & Wax

Leslie’s Life being colored, shaped and molded

Ready To Scream!

I took K to therapy today for speech. The first phone call I made when we left was to K’s doctor and told her I would not be wasting my time or our money to ever take my daughter back there again! (to the Therapy) When we got in there she asked how school was going. K said good and I said she is basically strait A’s. So we start talking, and at this point I did inquire as to the accuracy of the evaluation and the fact that she got things wrong like the fact that Mom did NOT bring K to the eval, because I was THAT sick and that it was dad. She then tells me that sometimes there is enough time between the evaluation and when she dictates it that she can’t remember the details. Well gee, then how am I to believe ANY of the details of this evaluation? Where are your notes??? (and tonight dh tells me that she could barely write because her hand was in a cast). And when I started making references to the eval, she then says that she doesn’t remember, and the eval is in her chart up front. HELLO? you are seeing this child that you have admitted you don’t remember and you don’t even have the chart here with you! And she tells me that she is thinking that she will work with K on a computer program while she is there. HELLO? I am paying you $50 a week to play on the computer when I can buy the program and she can do it at home????? (yes, I had even asked if I could buy it for home.) We went over to the computer and another therapist is using it. (Oh, and when we did get in there to use it, it says it is for 4 to 7 YEAR OLDS, I even verified that with the S.T. to make sure I read it correctly… and we wondered why K was getting ALL of them correct?????) So we go back to her office, and she pulls out this book of pictures. She then starts telling K to point the big box. Point to the red ball with the green stars… this sort of stuff… Hello, she could do this when she was 2. I then mention to her that I am a Respiratory Therapist. Not to be show off-y or anything like that, but to explain that I do have a clue what is going on. I worked Rehab for 6 years when we got here. Respiratory, Speech, OT & PT worked together as a team. I had to have a clue what is going on. Not that I am a specialist in their field, but I do have to have an idea of what they do. K has ADD, not Auditory Processing, and DEFINITELY NOT in the 1st percentile like she said in the eval. K might have a few issues with listening, but that is because she has issues focusing, not hearing!

Anyway, I have requested a complete 2nd Speech Evaluation from a different Therapy company. I told our therapist today what happened and she completely agreed with me. I will take the pages that they copied tomorrow when K goes for her appointment. I forgot they were in the car. I will be writing a letter to the manager of the first place we went to and explaining my frustration. I told our Psychiatrist that I would copy her on that letter as well, and she too agreed with my frustration.

Ok, I started this a few days ago… so I am not sure what date is going to come up…. so to say that I have calmed down is a mild thing…. but I still get all steamed up just talking about it.

Oh, but you do have to go check out the picture of K… and see what she did yesterday. Haven’t quite figured out why flickr has pictures posted in the wrong order, because that picture of her inside out braid was OVER a week ago. ->

Guess Who?

So last night I had signed us up for a dinner through church. You sign up and then are told where you are going (and phone number in case you need to cancel or get lost) and what kind of side dish to bring, but not any names. It sounded fun and since I was mad at Ken for not going to church with us that week (I signed us up about 3 weeks ago) so he didn’t get a vote. Anyway, earlier this week they called and said that they had a bunch of hosts drop and would I still be willing to host? Of course I said yes, cuz that is my personality, and beside, Ken couldn’t fight of about going if he didn’t have to in anywhere :) So when he asked of if he would know any of the people coming, I could honestly tell him, I don’t even know who is coming! I was just given a head count. I think that freaked him more than anything else!

One of our couples didn’t call or show up, which is frustrating, but we had a really good time anyway! Granted Ken said he would have rather been at the dentist, but I think it is good for him :) and he nothing else, it is nice of him to tolerate a bit (ok, so it is a LOT more than a bit) of discomfort to let of do something I enjoy! We keep talking about compromise in our marriage ;) Granted, I didn’t give him an option, but still.

I was talking to my mom last night after and I told her that I think God had His hand in the middle of who was coming. The things we had in common was amazing even with the age differences.

I guess this goes along with me liking to do things that are new (I was filling out more inventories for my therapist ;)) And even though Ken said he didn’t have fun, he did listen and talked, and the others stayed for 3 hours. And on top of it all, I totally forgot that the Womens Walk was going on. Granted, I didn’t have has to drive to Westcliff, so it all works out.

Can you believe it is November? 49 days til Christmas!

Did you remember to change you clock last night? Ken’s clock changed last weekend ;) Personally, I would rather stay on the summer time zone and not note at all! And this is why I am up so early, cuz medications can’t read a clock ;)

Happy November!
