4th Of July
The 4th was a fun day. We decided that we wanted to go to the parade up in Monument, since we were heading up to Denver for the afternoon anyway, and it was on the way. I was getting really frustrated with Ken, trying to get him up. He told me later that he really wasn’t trying to sabotage us. We didn’t even start heading to Monument until 10:30, and it started at 10. I was thinking it would go until noon, but then Ken pointed out that it is a small town. I told K that I didn’t think we would get to see much, so did we even need to stop. She insisted we try. As we got closer there were signs for additional parking. I looked at Ken and said, ‘is it going to be that big?’ He was like, obviously they think so since they have extra parking with shuttles.
We go up and I find a parking place near the post office, since Ken decided to stay in the car. And an hour and a half later, K and I finally came back to the car
Yup, my first instinct was right and it lasted til noon… actually til 12:15. Thankfully we had brought drinks with us. While I was there, I saw a really cool shirt. This girl was wearing a shirt that said “Land of the free… BECAUSE of the brave” It had a flag and stuff on it. When I shared it with Ken, he said it was the theme for the marathon that morning. Our pastor even referenced it in his weekly email this past week. He saw it on a bumper sticker. I love it. I was thinking as we were driving this weekend, that I want to print up a really nice paper that says Thank You, to have k put it in the window when we see someone with Veteran license plates. (Hey, you notice those things when you are playing the license plate game).
That afternoon we went to a friends house… the same house we go to every year. I even mentioned to DJ that we had been doing this for 17 years now. My goodness. The first time we went down, we were living in Laramie. This year we even got to tease one of the other couples, cuz we have always been the ones driving the farthest, going from Colo Spgs to Louisville and now Broomfield, (yes, he moved a couple years ago)… but one of our friends (who have been coming as long as we have) now live in Pueblo. They just plan to spend the night
Ken and I kept having a discussion about the dog, do we leave her in? leave her out? I just wanted to take her with us, so we had some flexibility. Ken said No about that one. I said we didn’t have to let her in the house, but DJ even said, but I don’t have a fenced yard. I said, I would have just kept her on her harness and leash all day. She is really good on that. Anyway, we had to head home before firework, because we left the dog IN, and figured she was crossing her legs, if not had an accident already. I was impressed. 12 hours and if she had an accident, I didn’t find it.
K got to see a bunch of different fireworks shows… mostly as we drove through Denver. She did get to see almost the whole Castle Rock show, as we could see it coming down the hill and the whole way through town. And there was even a few still going off as we got back into CS… but they were at the other end of town. (the closest to us was Monument, and they were done). So we went out front when we got home as promised and I let her play with sparklers.
We used up all we had. I took Kyra out front with us on her leash, and she did good, until some kids started shooting off firecrackers in the school parking lot. Not sure what happened there, but a car pulled in and all of a sudden all the kids went running to their cars and they all came screeching out of the parking lot. I walked over to where they were standing, making sure they hadn’t started a fire or something, but I am guessing the one kids told them someone called the police or something. It was a fun day.
K and I even painted our nails red, white & blue. It was fun trying to do the strips. A toothpick worked the best. We had some little tattoos from the doctors office. Ken had waisted his on his cast, but K and I put ours on Tuesday night. K put her’s on her arm, mine is on my ankle. Mine is just a heart shaped flag. K’s says I heart America. And best yet… No hormone swings!!!
How was your 4th?
